The Nashville Alliance for Public Education

The Nashville Alliance for Public Education, established in 2002 by a group of corporate and civic leaders, is dedicated to the goal of improving public education in Nashville, Tennessee. Working in partnership with the Metro Nashville Public School Board and the Director of Schools, the Alliance identifies areas of need and impact, then channels private community resources toward programs that accelerate progress in our schools.

Guided by the principle that quality public schools are central to the heart of our community, the Nashville Alliance’s mission is to build broader and deeper community engagement in public education and to encourage individuals, businesses and neighborhoods to take ownership of public schools and invest in improvements that can have immediate impact on student achievement.

The Alliance realized amazing growth this past year.  June 30, 2006 marked the end of the third full year of operations for the Nashville Alliance. In its three years of existence, the Alliance has raised over $3,890,000 in cash gifts and over $7,730,000 in cash gifts and multi-year pledges for public education in Nashville.

  • The number of individuals, businesses and foundations who made gifts to the Alliance rose from 850 to 2,600.
  • Cash gifts totaled more than $2 million and multi-year pledges $3 million.
  • As a result of the generosity of several foundations and the success of the Nashville Public Schools Hall of Fame, 100% of all funds donated to the Alliance go directly to schools or school programs. This demonstrates a vote of confidence in the mission of the Nashville Alliance and a commitment to the future of our community.

Donations to the Alliance have:

  • Enabled the Alliance to place $1,000,000 of musical instruments in schools.
  • Increased funding for Debate Travel Endowment.
