Giving to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education

Whether you have children in public schools or private schools, whether your children are grown, or you have no children at all, the success of 74,000 students in our community affects us all.

Public schools cannot improve by themselves. They need the commitment, expertise, interest, and financial resources from all segments of the community. The Nashville Alliance for Public Education was formed to connect the private and public sectors together to affect positive change and make a difference for Metro Nashville Public Schools. Your financial support will help accelerate the progress and improve and ensure quality education for our students, our community and our future. Join in improving the way our students learn, our teachers teach and our community cares.

Science Equipment
Because science is a critical part of education, the Nashville Alliance has made funding for updated science labs in Metro Nashville Public Schools a priority. The Nashville Alliance seeks to raise $1,000,000 for science equipment. With a challenge grant made possible by the Memorial Foundation, the Alliance will match dollar-for-dollar each and every contribution made for science equipment.

Music Education
Prior to grants from the Nashville Alliance, there had not been money allocated for new instruments in Metro Schools for more than 30 years. Over the past two years, the Nashville Alliance has placed $1M worth of musical instruments in schools throughout the district. However, the need still exists for an additional $3M worth of instruments.

Reading
Because reading is the single most important skill that affects learning, the first priority of the school system is to ensure that students learn to read. A focused reading curriculum is now in place; Parents, students and teachers know what is expected; Reading specialists have been hired, and Reading performance is improving. The Nashville Alliance seeks to support this progress by funding vocabulary programs, train reading teachers and direct funds to reading programs as recommended by the Director of Schools.

Teacher Training Facility
The Nashville Alliance has begun a public/private partnership to address the critical need for a new professional development facility. In the fall of 2006, Eakin elementary students, faculty and still moved into the newly renovated Cavert School leaving historic Eakin School vacant. This provided a unique opportunity to maximize resources and use existing school property by transforming Eakin into the teacher training facility. With the backbone funding of more than $3,000,000 in place from private donors, the Nashville Alliance seeks to raise an additional $500,000 for the training facility. The opportunity to impact public education has never seemed so urgent and achievable.

Give to a Specific School

Support a specific school by directing your gift to the school and/or program you want to support.

Your financial gifts are tax deductible and will be an investment in our schools and our community. As a result of the generosity of several foundations and the success of the Nashville Public Schools Hall of Fame, 100% of all funds donated to the Alliance go directly to schools or school programs.
