Reading

Reading is the single most important skill that affects learning. The first priority of the school system is to ensure that students learn to read. Therefore, a focused reading curriculum is now in place; parents, students and teachers know what is expected; reading specialists have been hired, and reading performance is improving. The Nashville Alliance seeks to support this progress by funding vocabulary programs, training reading teachers, purchasing books for libraries, providing instructional materials and directing funds to reading programs as recommended by the Director of Schools.
